2 Lb XL Orange River Quartz Plate from South Africa 5″ *SEE DESCRIPTION*

This cluster measures 5 x 5 x 1.75″ and weighs 1 Lb 15.5 oz. Mined from the Orange River region in the Northern Cape of South Africa.

This large plate of Orange River Quartz features a deep brick-red coloring, due to the presence of hematite inclusions within the quartz. Especially prominent in this piece are hematite phantoms within the tips of most of the crystal points. This piece came to us in two separate boxes. When it was discovered that the pieces fit together, we re-joined them. Looking at the top of the piece, it is impossible to tell it was once separated. However it is quite obvious from the base. Regardless, this is a beautiful statement piece and will be a gem in any collection.

The Orange River is the longest river in South Africa, and is a geologic treasure trove, producing a wonderful variety of stunning crystals. However, not all areas are accessible to miners, and crystals from the region can be hard to come by. Hematite quartz clusters typically exhibit a deep brick-red coloring, unsurpassed by any other location in the world.
