2.75″ Unpolished Orthoceras Fossil 1.3 Oz

Original price was: $5.00.Current price is: $3.00.

Here we have the fossil shell of an Orthoceras. These are an extinct shrimp-like genus of nautiloid cephalopod, commonly found in middle Ordovician-aged marine limestones of the Baltic States and Sweden. The Orthoceras was an ancestor to the modern-day squid and was a skilled hunter. The shell was unique, as it grew with the Orthoceras, and did not have to be replaced like a hermit crab – it added additional layers as the occupant grew larger. This piece is from Morocco
