This Ammonite measures 2.5 x 2.1 x 0.75″ and weighs 2.6 Ounces. From Madagascar.
The outside of this shell features some beautiful rainbow Ammolite (the pearlized reflective area), and some visible sutures – the snowflake-like patterns formed behind the ammolite, along the length of the shell. The piece has been cut in half and polished, giving us a view of the inside of the shell. What was once empty gas chambers, is now filled with a crystallized, nearly translucent calcite, including some small drusy caves. This is a beautiful specimen!
Ammonites are fossilized shells of a now-extinct shrimp-like cephalopod. They are sought after by collectors for their beauty, their often-well-preserved state, and their unique nature. In metaphysics, they are also believed to carry a very ancient energy and wisdom.
