This tooth measures 1.75 x 0.75 x 0.4″ and weighs 0.1 Oz. From Morocco.
This is a genuine tooth from the Onchopristis, or “giant saw”. It is in excellent condition with good enamel intact. Due to the age and nature of these teeth, they almost always come out of the ground in multiple pieces, however this specimen appears to be whole. This extinct giant saw-skate lived during the Cretaceous period. It had a long shovel-shaped snout called a rostrum, lined on both sides with tooth-like hook and barb structures called denticles. The Onchopristis used this hook-edged snout to dig for shellfish in shallow waters, similar to the smaller sawfish of today.
